Hello!

My name is Kacey Caunan. I am currently a third year double majoring in Educational Sciences and International Studies. I have a strong passion for working with young children, so in the future I hope to become an elementary school teacher. But first, I plan to join the Peace Corps after undergrad to work with children in under-developed countries. Thus, I hope to implement the strategies and art projects I will learn in this class for my future classes.

Assignment #1

"Friends may come and go, but family is forever."

During these past few years in college, I have learned greatly just how important family is. They are the ones that will always be there for you, no matter what. Thus, I have made a strong effort to love and appreciate my family for who they are. Despite any bumps in the road, my family's endless support and unwavering love makes them the most important people in my life.

And because of their support, I was able to have the BEST summer of my life studying abroad and traveling around Europe! All the memories and experiences I made this summer were all thanks to my family. Thus all the cities I visited this summer were very meaningful to me.

Assignment #2

Sometimes it's easy to forget just how beauitful our campus is. I feel like a lot of us students walk aimlessly to class, unaware of the very present natural beauties our school has to offer. One thing I learned from my travels in Europe is that a lot of the beautiful sights can go unnoticed because some things can only be seen when you look up. Thus, here in Irvine, I have been making an effort to open my eyes, look around, and notice the beauiful sights this city has to offer. Even something that looks and seems so simple, like a lamp at night, or a table on the rooftop, can create such beautiful meaning in a photo.

Assignment #3

Yes, I have to admit that I was once one of those kids obssessed with k-pop music. Back in sixth grade, a few of my very good friends introduced me to k-pop (Korean pop music). At first I didn't find much interest in the music, but the more I listened to it the more addicted I became. So for two years, all I listened to and cared about was k-pop. By getting into k-pop, however, I was able to bond very well with other friends who were also interested in k-pop. Even to this day, although I do not listen to k-pop anymore, those friends I grew close to because of it, I still consider some of my very best friends today.

As a teacher, maybe I could learn what type of music my students are listening to and change the lyrics of certain songs into lyrics that pertain to our lesson. Also, I could play the music my students like as background music while they are working on assignments during class.

Assignment #4

I would consider myself to have been a huge bookworm when I was younger. I looked forward to my weekly library adventures with my mom, always to leave the library with at least two new books in my hands. Back in elementary school and middle school, I was addicted to books that were involved in a series. I just loved knowing that the story continues even after I get to the last page. The genre of books I was most attracted to were science-fiction and adventure stories. Thus, I used to read the Alex Rider series, Power of Five, Maximum Ride, the Hunger Games, and many more. Once I got into high school, however, I became attracted to series that had some romance, like Twilgiht and Mortal Instruments.

One series, however, that I started my senior year in high school and am still currently obssessed with is called Outlander. I was first introduced to it because it became a TV series on STARZ network. I watched the first episode and bought the books the very next morning. I was attracted to the series because despite the romance aspect of it, the character dynamics and development throughout the books were very deep and enriching to read about. Because the series takes place in Scotland during their highlander era, I have learned a lot about Scottish highland culture. This series even influenced my decision to take a solo trip up to the Scotland highlands and experience the fantasies from the pages of my story into my reality.

Assignment #5

Back in my junior year of high school, I was on my high school's girls varisty tennis team. And that 2011-2012 year, we became division 5 CIF champions. This became a big deal for my school since no sport team in my school's history has ever won any CIF tournaments. We made history. But the path to getting to to top was not an easy one for the team. During my sophomore year of high school, we experienced four different coach changes. And our top player sat out most of the season because she had medical problems with her leg. Thus, we ended our 2011 season at fifth place in Division 5. Before the start of our 2011 season, the team decided to go to Disneyland together as a bonding experience. And because of this trip, all of us grew a strong bond that translated onto the courts. Practice with our strict coachwas made more bearable because we all trusted each other, and importantly, we supported each other, good days and bad. For me personally, I hated the pressure games brought. Luckily, my team was aware of my insecurities during gamedays and offered me nothing but love and encouragement. Because of them, my confidence on the courts grew with every game. We made it to the final championship round. And the turnout from fellow friends and family was incredible. The stands and sidelines were spewing with cheers of encouragement from our supporters. And because of our amazing coach, rigorous practice, and endless support, my team and I conquered and became CIF champs! This season was one of the most memorable experiences I have from high school. And even to this day, we all still try our best to meet up at least once a year when everyone is back at home.
