Hi there, my name is Zainab Sabrin. I am a 5th year Public Health Sciences major and Educational Studies minor. I am from Riverside and went to Poly High School. Go Bears! I plan to graduate in Spring of 2016. I am still unsure of my future plans after UCI, but I know that I want to either go to grad school or PA school. I am pretty easy going and my new and expensive hobby is traveling. I love seeing new and different places and experiencing various cultures. It is truly an art of its own.

"My Life as art"

Assignment 1

Something very near and dear to my heart is my family. I am one of 7 children. I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters (yes, all from the same mom and dad-I get that question all the time). My family has been my main support system more than I could ever ask for or imagine. My parents have had and still do have an impact on my life. Through their love and support, they help me strive to succeed in everything and anything I do each and every single day. This photo was this year at my brother's graduation.

I only have 1 sister so I can't help but spoil her. She has impacted my life by brightening up my day with just her smile and bubbly personality .

The picture above is of my family and extended family members. The two people that are missing in this picture is my dad and older brother because they were out of the country. I just wanted to emphasize with this picture that my family has had a tremendous impact on my life.

The picture above is with my one and only older brother, Shaheed on my birthday 2 years ago. He has had a major impact on my life, as he was the first to graduate college and is now teaching English as a second language in Malaysia. Anytime I have a question, he has an answer. He has been my role model and mentor.

The photos above are of my cousins. They are both older than me, one by 5 years and the other by 10 years, but we grew up together and have so much in common. They impact my life by giving me inspiration. My one cousin graduated with her phD when she was 25 and my other cousin is a full time mother of 2 babies and is going to graduate next spring with her bachelors degree.

These pictures are of my very close friends that I met about 6 years ago. We met in a biology lab and have been inseparable since. They have impacted my life just by being great friends, supporting my goals, providing emotional support when needed, and just being there for me when I need them to.

Assignment 2

The following pictures are from nature and city-scapes from my some of my walks in various cities around the world starting from Irvine to Sweden to Norway to Prague and finally to Ireland. They are all images that I find intriguing.
The two top pictures are from UCI campus. This is one of my favorite places on campus. This picture captures the water falling in action and birds swimming. In this image, I noticed the shape of the waterfall in a straight line, which I did not notice before.
This image captures the beautiful color and intensity of the trees. I noticed that all the bushes in the background are the same size.
I like the hues of yellow and green in this photo taken in Sweden.
This pic was taken using the "rule of the thirds." I am able to see the bushes, trees, and lake in 4 seperate pieces. I also like the reflection of the trees and sky in this picture, which is something I did not notice before.
This photo was taken in a city in Sweden called Orebro. It is a cathedral and I found the architecture of the bulding intriguing.
This picture was taken while walking through the streets of Sweden. I came across all this nature and found the beauty in the framework of the plants intriguing.
UCI
Sweden
The picture to my left is the Lund University's (where I studied abroad) library in Sweden. This picture was taken in fall and I find it intriguing because this beautiful building is encompassed in nature surrounding itself with multiple hues of green, red, and pink. The photo above is in Stockholhm, Sweden presenting one of many castles. This particular castle was where the royals lived. It was intriguing todiscover a variety of plants surrounding it.

Norway
All of these pictures are from Norway. The photo in the middle with me provides a vivid image of the city-scape of Norway. The other images are from a cruise through the fjords of Norway.
Prague
The photo to the left was taken on one of my many walks through Prague. There were so many buildings that I found intriguing in Prague. This building was on the castle grounds and was said to have been made from deceased peoples skeltons.

Ireland
These 2 photos are both intriguing. To my left on the beach was a formation of rocks and to the right is a cathedral. The many rocks on the beach and the intricate details of the cathedral were intriguing.
Assignment 3

The above are all singers and music groups that I was attracted to as a teenager. Watching the YouTube videos of these artists now revealed what a tremendous impact music and popular culture had on me, as well as other students at my school. People I knew would try to incorporate and act like these singers and music groups in multiple ways, doing things they thought were cool that these people did and by dressing like them. If I were to become a teacher, I would incorporate music to grab the attention of students and in appropriate lessons.

Assignment 4

TV shows
Movies

Books
All of these tv shows, movies, and books were interesting to me when I was younger. In middle and high school, I was inspired by Dave Pelzer's memoirs. I was what people called "the troubled child." I endured many hardships and obstacles and reading these books during those times helped me get through it. I was inspired by how much abuse, pain, and suffering he endured and still lived to tell his story as a succesful author. His story made the bad days seem not that bad and the good days seem heavenly.
Assignment 5

These are some meaningful experiences that I have had in my life involving physical movement. The 4 pictures at the top are from when I was in Dubai. When I rode the camel, I was very nervous and scared, but my self-confidence increased as the time went by. The scariest part of riding the camel was when it moved/ walked, its hump would push you in the air a little. The people involved in this activity were laughing majority of the time, so it eased the situation. The picture next to it involved me riding the dune buggy in the desert of Dubai. It was extremely fun and exhilarating. The 2 photos below that were at ski Dubai located in the world's largest mall. I was extremely cold, but it was a breathtaking experience. I have never gone skiing prior to this, so I was not that confident. However, not too long after I felt like a natural. The 2 pictures at the bottom are from a campsite in Santa Barbara mountains. We discovered a waterfall on a spontaneous walk and my brothers and I decided to jump from the top. This was probably the scariest thing that I have ever done and I was not confident jumping because in midair, it felt like I was too close to the mountain and I was going to smack into it, but I did not. All of these activities of physical movements built my confidence in different ways.
